Switchfoot is a Grammy-winning American alternative/Christian rock band formed in 1996 in San Diego, California, by brothers Jon Foreman (lead vocals/guitar) and Tim Foreman (bass) while attending UC San Diego, joined shortly after by drummer Chad Butler.

Switchfoot is a Grammy-winning American alternative/Christian rock band formed in 1996 in San Diego, California, by brothers Jon Foreman (lead vocals/guitar) and Tim Foreman (bass) while attending UC San Diego, joined shortly after by drummer Chad Butler. The band was signed by Charlie Peacock to Re:think Records under the original name Chin Up before adopting "Switchfoot" — a surfing term for changing one's stance. Guitarist Jerome Fontamillas (Mortal, Fold Zandura) and Drew Shirley (All Together Separate) later completed the five-piece lineup. After early albums on Re:think/Sparrow, they broke into the mainstream through four songs on the "A Walk to Remember" soundtrack (2002) and the double-platinum major-label debut "The Beautiful Letdown" (2003), driven by hits "Meant to Live" and "Dare You to Move." Later albums include "Nothing Is Sound" (2005), "Oh! Gravity." (2006), "Hello Hurricane" (2009), "Fading West" (2014), "Where the Light Shines Through" (2016), "Native Tongue" (2019), and "Interrobang" (2021). They also run the BRO-AM Foundation and the Lowercase People Records label.
